For Judy....

How come this birds legs are yellow? And LOOK the one behind him, what the hell??? has one leg?
See this one looks like he only has one leg too! A different leg, or is it hidden? Can they do that, hide a leg, or push it behind the feathers?
I really know diddley about birds. Love to look at them and try to take pics of them. But am abysmal at it. Had the wrong camera too. The little one does not take fast pics. So this is the best i could do. Love the way the light comes thru the feathers.
Some people were feeding bread to them and i stood behind the people. He got shat upon, i almost did, eeewwww, but the bag i was carrying deflected it. Thank Heavens!!
But really are there legs different colors? Seagulls? And surely it did not have only ONE leg?

  2. Loree, Judy is going to love your bird pics! They are really good!
Thanks for joining my band of followers! I just love your blog, especially since the first two things I noticed were BEACHES and Luci! I lived in Clearwater so I appreciate a good beach and we had a precious dachshund named Dixie who now belongs to a once-lonely old gentleman.

    Can't wait to read more,

  3. Bird Lady, here. :) Those are some mighty fine shots of two different kinds of gulls. The one with the yellow legs is a ring-billed gull (see the black dot near the end of it's bill?) The other gulls with the black feet at laughing gulls. In summer their entire head will be black, and they make a sound like laughter. They can tuck their legs into their feathers, so chances are they have two legs.

If I get to meet you in New Orleans, remind me to tell you the story of the one legged vultures.

In bird parlances, there is no such thing as a sea gull. There are gulls that live by the sea, but no seagulls. (Just tell that to Jonathon Livingston Seagull, and see what he thinks!) :))
