D-Day

It is D-Day today. My father went in on Omaha Beach, thru France to Germany and on to Czechoslovakia. He drove truck and transported many survivors of the concentration camps. He never talked about it. Finally the year before he passed France awarded/commemorated US veterans in Oregon. There was a ceremony in Salem, the whole family went, he was very proud yet staunch... He felt it was about time and almost too late, too late for a very many of them.
It is certainly a day that needs to be remembered.

  1. What a wonderful remembrance of your Dad. My Dad was a WWII vet and he never wanted to talk about what happened "over there" either.

  2. How lucky your dad was still around for the ceremony. My dad was a Pearl Harbor survivor and, fortunately, he would talk about it.

  3. Good post, we should not forget! My father landed on the beaches that day and he never talked about it afterwards.
