Big Hollow Lake

Went to this place today to Kayak,  what fun!!!  Just gliding along, silence, very relaxing.  It was a first for both of us.  This is Patti with me, she is Darah's (daughter of Carol with whom i am staying) mother-in-law.  So a friend!!! The place where we rented the boats at did not look like much at all, was a little worried at first. BUT altho he did not have a bursting personality, he was very knowledgeable and really helped us with the kayaks.  Transporting them to the lake and helping us in and giving tips along the way.

It was just GREAT fun and now long to do it again.  May even invest in a kayak, if i think i would go out and DO it or could find someone to go with.  Had to take pictures of my feet in the boat as Sherry (from In the direction of Our Dreams) always does. Now am going to be even more envious when her and David get to do this.  Have to figure a better way to get in tho as i sort of just FELL into the boat on my backside :)  Oh! the guy said, well you are in, she may need some help getting out!!! Yelling this across to Patti.  I got out just fine!!!! Just shoved the thing into the gravel on shore then straddled the thing with feet in water !!!! And crow-hopped/walked up to shore.  Not to graceful but the job got done.
We were out for about 1 1/2 hours which was fine for the 1st time and it was 87!!  So could feel myself burning.... even tho i had sunscreen on.  It was just great, relaxing fun!!!  But think i need alot more exp before tackling the Mississippi!!! Or any other running water.. But then we have alot of lakes around Central Oregon.....
Take Care All & God Bless
Leaving for home on Wednesday.......................

  1. I think kayaking is something I would love to learn to do. But I don't think I'll ever convince my Joe to do it with me. I think it would be so fun to kayak in the waters around the Old Mill area in Bend too.I have the Willamette River about five minutes from my house. I would enjoy seeing the wildlife along the shores.

  2. Oh I just love this Loree. SO glad you did it. Isn't it wonderful!!
Don't fret a bit about how you get in or out. Who cares, just have a great time. I really do have to get back on the water as soon as I can. I just love it. Lakes are the perfect place to start. I usually wear long sleeves and a big brimmed hat and try to paddle along the shore in as much shade as I can during the summer. It is so easy to get burned.

  3. How fun, Loree!! Looks like the perfect day and water conditions for your first time. I've been twice and LOVED it both times. I'm sure Carol told you about the time we went - SO funny!! Hope that is something you will be able to pursue back home. It really is a relaxing sport.
