Just a ??

Why in the world do I have to keep 'logging in' to google & facebook and my blog, I mean, really??  THEN from one time to the next I can NOT remember what the stupid passwords are.... At the time- I DO remember- they seem so clear and concise, but a week later??????  They are unretainable..... (is that a word? I don't think so) I have to make up yet another one and try to make it so I can remember, THIS time I wrote it down, But what is the point, someone can find it and then just access everything, isn't that why you have a password, so that someone can't DO that!!!!  I am just beside myself with angst, as I KNOW that as surely as the night follows the day, NEXT time I won't remember and NOW I won't remember where I wrote it down either!!!!!  There was a prompt, do I want someplace] to remember my password, this time I said 'YES'  do you think this will solve anything? or now will some horrid hacker be able to find that and do something bad to me????
This goes on and on and seems to have no end or the ???? and worry.................

  1. The government taught us a trick to remember passwords. Use a phrase that is completely familiar to you. aka Iluvmy2dogs! that way you have a capital, a number, and a special character. Then if some website won't let you use the character, you can just leave that one off. All you will have to remember is whether or not the character is used. Just a thought. We had to change different passwords every couple of months and were never supposed to write them down of course. Good luck with it, Loree.

  2. I don't think there is any way to do it except to keep a file of usernames and passwords. I have a double spaced Word file that is 4 pages long1 I use the same password where possible for several logins, but I still have to refer to my list. I've been thinking about coming up with an entirely new userid and password, and changing every one I have to the same thing. I think the whole thing is ridiculous!

I bought a used book on Amazon about a month ago. The used bookseller keeps asking me to rate their service, which I would like to do, but the link takes me through Amazonn and for some reason I have a different p/w for rating books than my regular login, so I can't rate any merchant on Amazon. I think it's a scam to make us think we have some control.

  3. I don't know what a browser you use but most have a setting where you tell it to remember you.

I use Firefox and tell it to not remember me or my passwords on anything. Primarily because as I traveled, I was afraid I might lose my laptop or horrors! someone might steal it.

If you will click on whatever your browser is ... a drop down menu should appear .. click on Preferences then Security ... that is where you tell it to or not to remember your stuff.

    hope this helps...

  4. I have all of my passwords written down, except that I put dashes in place of some of the letters when I write it down, I can still remember what the password is with the missing letters. I usually only need to write down the first and last letter and maybe one or two numbers if a number is required. What I hate is that one place says it must be more than 8 digits and contain letters and numbers and then the next website had different requirements, a pain.

  6. I am not sure why you keep 'logging in' to those sites either. One important thing is not to give out your email address to anyone on those sites that you don't know who they are or open an email that you don't recognize. In the past 6 months I have had to get my bankcard replaced 3 times because it was 'compromised'. We can try to protect ourselves as much as possible but they can still get ya!

  7. Same problem, same no solution but I like Sue's idea. Sadly th longer the password, the harder for both us and the hackers to get it. I get bogus phishing emails all the time from friends whose email address book has been stolen.

  8. You are not alone. I like the government idea and may use it the next time I need to change my banking password.

  9. I had am haveing this problme with Yahoo. But awhile back it was with blogger when they made some changes. Now if you hit remember me it doesn't and you have to sign in everytime. I right my passwords down. The only one I don't is my banking. But most I try to keep the same with maybe a number or letter that is different.

  10. I have mine written down. It's that simple - I can't remember them. Just have to trust that the paper doesn't get stolen or lost. Such a pain.

  11. I have seven pages of pass codes in a word document that is itself pass worded. That way I only have to remember the pass word for the document:)

  12. Have you heard of Dashlane? It is an encrypted program to save you info and then enter it for you. Works great.

  14. Boy that's a problem all right. We have three different email addresses, but use the same password on all. Suzy develops memory links for us so we can remember them. But for financial stuff, she has to create different ones, and I have no idea how she remembers them! She says she doesn't know how either!
