For the Birds

LOVE my old birdhouses... really like getting a 'good' deal on them, sometimes they are pretty expensive and then they stay at their original home and do not come to mine!

BUT a lot of the time, they are reasonable, $10 or under are more my style or given to me as gifts ;0 that is always nice....  Brother Jerry hung up the wooden ones for me.

You can see the snow depth we got on the tops of them... have never really seen a bird in them,  nosing about, but never in them...
Maybe some day...

I think this is really a bird feeder, but still like it, a friend gave it to me for my birthday one year  : )

The one below is an old Noxema jar, remember Noxema??  I used it all the time in my teen years....

We got to minus 10 last night... Carol G in Bend said it was 26 below where she was West of Bend in NW Crossing.  We used to get weather like that all the time in the 60's and some in the 70's!!  One time I remember it was 2 feet of snow, 20 below and Dad could not get us plowed out for 2 days!!  We lived back a mile on an old irrigation road, two rut, dirt road.  Water lines were all frozen as was the sewage system.  The good old days  :)
The snow formed a crust on top you could walk on.  We had sheep at the time and they needed to be fed and watered twice a day, cut holes in the pond so they could get water.  Fun times....
But we had a roaring fire in the fireplace and plenty to eat, and books to read, so all was well in the world.

Take Care All & God Bless

  1. I'm glad you are staying warm and safe! About your bird houses not being occupied, I wonder if wasps or spiders have made nest in them. I had to check the inside of mine every year at the beginning of spring or the birds couldn't use them.

  4. Isn't it great living here in Oregon? We have pretty moderate weather here, even the winters aren't too bad most of the time. I grew up in Klamath Falls, and it's always cold and snowy down there in the winter. I'll take Eugene any day.
Thanks for sharing your snow pictures, Loree.

  5. Great pictures Loree. Those sure are low temperatures. I'm used to February being the coldest month. How much worse can it get?

  6. Sure hope you can get some birds to come stay with you for awhile. I remember those winters back in the 60's. The one in 64 was the worst. Cattle froze standing in the fields and farmers couldn't get out to them because there was so much snow. I hope to never experience anything like that ever again.

  7. I love the smell of Noxema. Always used it as a kid if I got a sunburn.

  8. I like your rustic bird houses. Too bad you don't have tenants. I can't wait for spring to put up the birdhouses my dad made and the grands painted for me this summer. Keep your feet warm!!!!
