Fun Ride!!

Mt Bachelor

At the dog sledding place behind Sunrise Lodge.. Run by Scordis Family.. Rachel, the daughter has run the Iditerod twice (and she is legally blind)  many of these dogs run in the Iditerod, some of them many times.  This little day with an hour run is nothing to them, training more than likely, in the Iditerod they run 100-150 miles a day and it takes 12 days to complete.  Goes from Anchorage AK to Nome

There wasn't a lot of snow and in sunny places on the run, they had been in there shoveling snow from beside the road, under the trees on the South side into the roadway.  In heavy snow Mt B personnel groom the trails, but with so little snow, the employees are out shoveling snow so there is smooth running.
There were snow bits thrown up by the dogs feet, but I was shielded by Sacia, who sat in front of me  :)
It wasn't really all that cold, but fingers and noses got cold... of course I had on MANY layers of clothing, two pairs of socks and snow boots.  And we had those wool blankets piled on us too.
This sled weighed 100# plus the weight of Sacia and me and the musher...  The dogs went along at quite a clip, the musher said was 10mph.. they were just trotting, sometimes loping.  All were eager to go.  There was one, Otis, who was taking exception to the dog behind him and was snarling/barking and trying to get back there, but in no time at all he settled down to the job at hand..

Here we were, back, all safe and sound.

Dogs were ready to go home.. this was their final run of the day...

After this we went to Cascade Brewing for a bite and brew (I did not brew :)

Then shopping at the Old Mill Dist.. a fun day, home by 5:30pm

Take Care All and God Bless

p.s.  the Iditerod runs the 1st week in March.....

  3. WOW what a fun thing to do. GREAT pictures!! I'd love to do it if I weren't allergic to cold weather. I need some ruby slippers to click and be there for a couple of days and then click to get back "home" to the warm. Thanks for showing it to me. I'm amazed that someone who is blind can do the Iditerod. That is really something!
