Scammers??

Think I am being scammed!!! Two days now... got calls saying the IRS is suing me, today was my final notice!! Well, I think if it were so, I would have received something that I owed something, wouldn't I? Before this... have gotten nothing and I pay my taxes religiously.  So got may name on the Do Not Call list (whatever good that will do) filed a complaint with the FTC and TIGTA, Treasure Inspector General for Tax Administration.... went to IRS office in Bend and they closed in June and had a phone # on their door, which I called and got nowhere, but a round robin and go to the internet and a hang-up, great help! I don't like giving out my phone # and email address, we will see what happens, more than likely nothing.  And if they even call, how will I know they are the 'good' guys??? I do not have a 'tax' person per se as I go to the senior center to get taxes done, (the last two years) they are really so easy and uncomplicated (but more than I can do myself) I can't stand paying $250 to have them done, which is what I had been having to pay.  People just put a high price on services nowdays, don't they? Just paid $45 to have hair done this week, it is a damn fine haircut tho and very happy with it!!
But the IRS website has all kinds of info there on scammers, and it all seemed to fit.  I called the #'s back that were left and they had been disconnected, which is fishy right there....
Also get multiple calls a month re: warranty on my car.... 2006 Element, wanting me to pay to extent that, not going to do it.. geez, I can be insurance up the whahoo for everything, car/house/life/medical, it goes on and on....
Sooooo, has this ever happened to anyone else??? What did you do?
Take Care All & God Bless

  2. SCAM!!! The IRS will never call you... They will send and Official letter with everything they accuse you of and that they are reviewing whatever and you will be given instructions exactly what to do and there will be a phone number to call that will be answered by the IRS yada, yada, yada... I know this because my ex was always in trouble with them and I would receive the letters(he was such a jerk)... If you are ever in doubt call your local law enforcement agency and they will help you out or call the IRS, they'll tell you if they're after you... ;)

  3. It is the medical insurance calls that give me a headache. I am on the no call list but I think the government puts us on a list for insurance for Medicare gap calls. They come from every state, not just mine! Cannot wait for open enrollment to be over.

  4. Being a retired IRSer these calls just make me so angry. People are scared of the IRS to begin with so these scams really play on their fears. Even Jim got one the other day.

  6. A long time ago I was audited - I received a letter from the IRS, form included. Answered the questions on the form and returned it to them and never heard back. That made me think that anytime the IRS has questions for you, it will be sent US Mail. I know the would NEVER call you. Sorry you had to deal with this. :(

  7. I had to change my number because they wouldn't stop calling and then started using a code that could not be traced. So many scammers out there. I have registared my cell with do not call and so far only recieved one call and I told her I was registared and she hung up fast. Mine call was about US Government school loans or some such crap.

  8. You are being scammed. Do a google search or call the IRS directly and they will tell you that they do not make calls like that, everything they do is sent via mail so it can be traced and documented. They will never call you to tell you that you are being sued, you are on a robo-list by some scammers.
