Today we went out for breakfast at Ken's Steakhouse which is apparently THE place to eat, everyone was there! It was nice. then drove along the shore som more and ended at a black sand beach that we had to walk 1/4 mile into. It was pretty neat!!!! and it rained, can actually say that i got cold before got back to the house and had to take a HOT shower, to warm up!!!! Went thru some heavy rains to get back here, but it was all of maybe 15 miles total back to our house and it is only sprinkling here, so no worries, as they say here :)
having a shrimp and noodle dinner
Oh, and went to the sunday market in Pahoe, it was ok, the one downtown was bigger had more crafty things, but i did get a wood carved turtle, primative, he called to me.
Aloha!!!!

Tsunami!!!!
WELL!!!! we were evacuated, high thrill for the day. Came honking horns, banging on the door at 7am!!!! did you know the sun comes up then? took time to snap a pic :)
Earthquake in Chili so there was forecast of a tsunami.....
we spent the day on the volcano. That's where the police told us to go. went to a lookout about at 2000 ft level along with MANY other people and sat there, watching the ocean about 20 miles away, & watched & watched and it did nothing. but the lava and all that area was really cool to see, much more lava and different than we get in central Oregon. miles and miles of it and huge craters and lava tubes. we got the all clear about 2pm, had lunch in small town of volcano then went back to the house and it was ok, nothing happened there. the little caretaker came to welcome us back and put things back in order, had put all the rugs up, took down the umbrella on the deck, turned off the hot tub, so he undid all of that and we are back in order!!! took a swim in the pool and here i am.
and we are able to get ready in a VERY short period of time, get food and water and all of our things packed in the car and on the road in under 1/2 hour!!!! pretty good for 5 women.
hope your day was good, and maybe not quite so exciting.

Luau--4th day
well one of our group, Sonja, had an allergic reaction to the sun and swelled up like a toad!!! had to take her to the ER.. and she did not get to go with us to Kona... BUT the luau was wonderful... altho the King Kameahamea Hotel has seen better days, that is the venue where the luau was held, near the ocean, we got some great pics, took 2 hours to drive north, then south, and we are going to do the northern portion of that trip on another day, as there was lots to see, but could not stop as had to get around the island!
Having a great time, wish you could ALL be with us!!!!!

3rd day
Today we got up early and went to the Wednesday Farmers Mkt in Hilo old town, they had the most wonderful things. got all kinds of fruit! took an ice chest to keep the fruit good, have a wonderful picture of all of it, pineapple, papaya, guava, which is really good, jicama, apple bananas, which taste like....bananas :) Then to Hilo Hatties for some hawaiian wear :)
Saw Rainbow falls and some neighborhoods up and around the back part of Hilo. Ate at a wonderful Hawaiian place, can't remember the name in the same mall as Hattie's was in and had Lua Lua, which is pork and fish wrapped in taro leave, it was wonderful, fried rice, poi over some pulled pork that was really good, so lunch was good, then to macadamia nut place, it was interesting, they have 250,000 trees on 250 acres.
Then home early drove down the road a ways past where we turn off and saw some more ocean sights and lava and surfer boys :)
Then back home thru lava fields and swam and hot tubbed, till it started to rain, now the frogs are REALLY at it, singing away, breeze wafting in, doing laundry and reading.
Have a good night!

2nd day!
Well, guess what? those 'birds' are actually FROGS in the trees, so they say. we still think they sound pretty, BUT the locals are disgusted with them, apparently they were shipped in from some place else and have taken over things and what we thought beautiful and so Hawaiian is a nuisance, HA!
we went to 'old' Hilo and shopped around, found a neat fabric store and got a kit for a Hawaiian blanket, it will be cute!!! sitting with the other 'kits' that i have from various places, but i figure in the RV in a place where i have nothing to do, i will have all the time in the world to sew them all together!!!!
got into the pool again and went to a lava tree state park, that was rather neat! they once had some really BIG trees here.
got all kinds of fresh fruits for eating and had those last night while playing dominos!!!
today we are going back to Hilo and an extended saturday market held on wednesday, the to the zoo/botanical gardens, see macadamia nut farm and some waterfalls. eventually we will get to a BEACH i am sure!!!!!
love you all, miss the cold weather, HA!!!

Aloha!
Aloha!!!! One and all..
We are here in this beautiful place on the big island of Hawaii south of Hilo!!!!! Had a little bit of rain this morning, but the sun is now coming out. there is no air conditioning in this place!!!! Oh!! NO!!!!! Have to open windows and use overhead fans.. and after awhile things got MUCH better. It was a LONG ride on 3 different planes to get to where we were going, but interesting seeing all the different people and accents. I have a little casita all by myself so it is very nice, BUT can't figure out the TV, so have to get on that today or else i will be bereft (thing that is the correct spelling, oops, it wasn't and spell check fixed it for me!) swam in the pool right off, Twice!!!! it was so nice to relax and get unwound from the stiffness of the trip.
I DO feel a little bad about telling you all about this wonderful place while you all are sitting there in awful, cold weather, BUT that is what the blog is all about, my travels about the country and this is a part of it :)
Hope you are all well, take Care and God Bless (from hula land!)

Back Home - Again
then Monday to Hawaii!!!!
Don't know yet if taking the lap top or not, so there may be a period of time that i am off line, so to speak. Luci is going to be a mess, she has been 'acting out' this week, so i hear, peeing in the bathroom and demanding that DeeDee get up at 4am to put her out or she pees in Her bedroom!!! Geez, guess we will never get over this, but she is mad that i am gone, don't imagine the housesitter will have a fun time with her, hee-hee. Maybe it will be just one tiny, little insignificant thing that i don't mention :). such a twerp she is. i have her on my lap right now and am trying to give her all the comfort and support that i can.
Say, have you been watching the Olympics!!! I LOVE the ice skating, but have gotten into the short track and Apollo Ono going round and round and those guys trying to push each other off, i never saw that in the Olympics b4, i swear, it is like rollar derby on ice, for cripes sake. And Shawn White on the snowboard and the downhill skiers, that is all rather thrilling!!!
This pic is a close-up of the south or back side of Mt Bachelor, thought it turned out ok...no ski runs on this side.
Started another afghan as could not figure out the 1st one, and am half done, just sit and crochet like crazy while watching TV.
And how stupid is The Bachelor??? I mean, really????
Well, have to go get things unpacked and washed, so i can pack up again, have to find some summer clothes as the weather station shows it is 80 in Hawaii!!!! Oh my, am just goiong to sit in the sun like a lizard and soak up the heat until my bones are warm!!!
You all Take Care and God Bless

Oh, Dear
Here i am in Sunriver, housesitting again. It is Saturday. Did you see the opening ceremonies for the Olympics? Not near as good as the China ones, but nice. I liked when it looked like WHALES were swimming on the floor of the venue, that was something!!!
Not much happening here. Just being lazy and letting dogs in and out and feeding them and ME!!! Tried to start a new afghan and can NOT figure out how to get the pieces together, it is quite a puzzle!!! So nothing else happening. Hope you are all having something going on!!
Take Care and God Bless!!!

Begging
Started a new afghan, i am in the zone.... this one is light thyme color and done in triangles, with popcorn stitch and double crochet throughout and each one added on to the other, so no sewing them all together at the end, i like those kinds.
Have to get ready tomorrow to go to Sunriver until the 18th, so not able to post anymore pics until i get back. Have to pack, clothes, food, books, yarn. Already took some dog treats out to the dogs there, they were not paying much attention to me and felt if i give them a treat after they are out for awhile, then next time i whistle, they may pay some attention to me and come running, What do you think? I think so!!!
We are just getting a tiny bit of rain and hardly cold at all, but prob be alot colder south of Sunriver as it is just that much higher.
Am getting excited about the Olympics starting i watched the Nationals in ice skating and there are some really good skaters and want to see what happens. The women and the ice dancing and couples looked really good. I have always really liked watching.

Yesterday i was in Madras seeing my Aunt and taking things to the RV. So we had another nice little drive. Got some pics but they were a little dark, but the cloud cover was beautiful!
Here is another afghan that i completed. It went really good, think i am going to do another in blacks/grey/ off white and can't think what the 3rd color will be, it is only used a tiny bit, this one had the very light green, so i thought maybe a pinkish color might look good. will see what i can put together at the store, have to get that too, as want to take it with me to house sit, then i have something constructive to do.
Hope you are all well!!!! Take Care and God Bless

I Don't know, the last couple of days i have been getting more 'stuff' done, probably the weather. It must be in the 60's at least the 50's, sunny, hardly any clouds, the mountains are all white and just STICK out there on the horizon!!
Have been tanning, getting ready for Hawaii, we leave the 21st!!!! getting close and if i go there with no base tan i will burn like crazy, so have to go thru this, but it is nice, like a mini vacation. Got Luci's nails done, she was NOT happy.
Yesterday, took in taxes, made appointments for hair and waxing --:)
Today i found this park and walk way behind the Senior Center here in Bend. It was the most wonderful thing. Ponderosa pines, an irrigation canal, no water now, but in the summer there will be gurgling water, there is shade and light and it runs thru a neighborhood in the back yards, like between sub-divisions. My bestest friend ever used to live right there in the late 70's, early 80's at that time it was a sub-division in turmoil that did not take off as it should have and now there is the nice Senior Center, BIG playground, park, picnic benches and this is where the trail starts and you can walk all the way to Pilot Butte which is probably a couple miles on a pine needle covered gravel walkway, could even bike back there. Luci thought it was very nice, lots of squirrels! We just walked and walked, sat on a bench and walked back, did not even have my jacket on, but artfully draped and tied around my waist...HA!
I even found time to have lunch with a couple friends at the new Olive Garden that just opened last month. It was very nice to get out and talk to other people in a nice atmosphere. Food was good as was the service!!!!
Hope you are having happy days!!!
