Rain 'n Rant

I just LOVE the smell of rain after a hot day.. Something so special about it and it brings up all kinds of memories.

I have been very slothful in not writing anything. I DO things, just does not seem too terribly newsworthy or blog worthy for sure.

I was asked what is it I do all the time recently, well..... 'stuff' -I am up and moving, there is always something, even if it is a 'little' thing that needs done to maintain a household. And I do enjoy those mundane little things, of a daily basis, tho letting the dogs in and out repeatedly throughout the day does seem to wear on a person at times. I am so lazy and they are SO very insistent and why, oh WHY can't they 'go' at the same time?? that is just not happening. Maybe I am of weak character that I let them dictate the when most of the time....

There goes Luci, not 5 minutes AFTER Carl was out... oh well...

Have more and ending for the on-going saga of Dad's flag... that was by his and mom's headstone at the Redmond Cemetery.  Carol and I drove by there to see that all was OK not 2 weeks ago. All OK. Then....
THEN....
Went last Thursday to do the annual upkeep and digging out of grass around the stone.  The flag, pole and thingy (sheath) that it fit into was all gone. Everything.  There were people about as they were doing clean-up for the coming Memorial Day. And a funeral was in process. So went to talk with the maintenance people I guess they were.  And they said that yes, they remembered the flag and it was taken down as it was faded and ragged (NOT true) And it was hard to mow around. I explained to them that we did not just willy-nilly put that up that we got permission to do so.  It had been there since 2002 and why now? They had no reason other than there was a general clean-up of the whole cemetery for the holiday and it was ragged.  I re-iterated that was NOT the case.  I buy a flag for the house and the cemetery at the same time, they both fly 24/7 and the one at the house is not faded or ragged, and the one there was not either as I had just checked on it. They were firm, would not listen.  I could go to the shed, they put everything in there and look for it, I did, nothing thing there. What did they do with it?  They said garbage... then quickly changed and said it was burned (well you know that did not happen) Where was the pipe holder?  they did not know, threw away..... I then went to the Public works Dept, in charge of cemetery and complained, they said the same,  except they added that what if 500 people wanted to fly their own flag? They could not have that!  I said we got permission, did not just put it up. I re-iterated all I told the other person, they had nothing else to add, by this time I had gotten myself worked up into quite the tizzy and was crying, could not catch my breath, sobbing, I just left, what to do, nothing to do.  And before Memorial Day too.....
You know it was one brother that got permission and put up the flag and then I was left to care for it and change it and file the police report and report it when it was stolen last year.  So it is somewhat of a relief that it is no longer there, I no longer have to drive by and 'check' on it as no one else was going to.  And last time it needed replacing, it was almost $40 for one flag.... So maybe it is a blessing, but the way it was done, no warning, no, come get the flag, we have changed our minds, this is no longer ok.  Just the faceless bureaucratic way of them. We can do as we please and to hell with what you want or need and so sorry this is upsetting to you, what can we do to help? Nothing, just nothing.....
So I am letting it go.... trying to find peace.. took flowers yesterday. It was strange with no flag.  But I know Mom & Dad understand, I don't love them any less or not remember them. it is just a symbol. And I feel sad about it.....
Take Care and God Bless All, treasure one another now.....

  1. They should have sent a letter to everyone who's site needed attention or concern not just up and destroy stuff.

  2. I think this is the lazy person's way to mow around graves: They don't have to get off the lawn tractor to mow around the flags. It's aggravating. This is what happened in Tucson at the Evergreen Cemetery to my father's flag too. So sorry this is happening to you too.
