Mississippi Water Lilies!!!

Just want to say, right up front that i LOVE the Mississippi River.  Was always fascinated with it and its history. The French explorers traveling down it.  Mark Twain being a riverboat captain.  All the tonnage that goes down it.  The first year we toured the locks and dams here in Davenport with the park officials. Anytime i can get near it or take pictures of it is just wonderful.  Would love to go out on it!!  Well in a little power boat. We did a lunch cruise on a riverboat one year, THAT was fun and special.  Drove along it when i was in New Orleans. When i toured the Plantation  the lady talked alot about the river and their relationship to it.  Want to go to the head waters and jump across it and walk thru it!!!
It has water lilies that grow wild in it.  Was told that the lilies only grow in 2-3 feet of water. but have not tested that theory :)  There were ducks near them yesterday evening when i was there and they paddled amongst them and even walked on them!!! It was neat to see.
This year they are blooming!!!!  AND it is truly beautiful to see!!!
In the top picture the bridge is the 74 Bridge, apparently it has no name.....
Don't you just love these lilies???
Take Care and God Bless All!!!

  3. I'm an easterner, and when I moved to CA I had a job that required to to travel frequently. Going east, whenever the plane flew over the Mississippi River I felt I was back over God's country! I still get the same sensation when I travel cross country and drive across the river.

  4. That yellow flower is a lotus, sometimes thought more beautiful than a water lily. Water lilies grow better in somewhat shallow water, but can easily travel along in deeper water.
The Mississippi is a beautiful river, but treacherous.

  5. I love water lilies and rivers of all kinds too. Just really wish we'd stop daming them up and changing how they flow and dumping stuff in them to cause so much pollution. It makes me sad that we are so self centered and don't care enough to find other ways to get rid of our trash and generate power. Do go to Itasca State Park in Minneosta to see the head waters. Great camping spot.

  7. that was fun, Loree. I, too, the the Mississippi, and so many other rivers...just rivers in general. They are like living things with amazing stories and amazing history. Put your foot in a river and it is never the same river twice!
